Every year in Holland on Liberation Day, Dutch children put candles on the graves of the Canadian soldiers that liberated them in World War II. What do we do in Canada to remember? I wanted to convey to my children, who are Dutch/ German/ Indonesian/ French Canadians, how this history relates to them, so I decided to tell them the story of their family in during that time period.
