Words aren’t the best way to depict Maskull Lasserre, he’s easier understood through his work, perhaps even to himself. Immigrating to Canada at age six from South Africa, it’s hard for Maskull to remember what it was like not being Canadian. He works in a way that internalizes experience until it comes out of the raw materials he uses. Through the process of elimination a man emerges carved out of Canada’s stone, wood and even newspapers, but how much of it was shaped by the boy from S.A?
